What do healthcare professionals think of the reform law? Let’s just say they aren’t rabid fans.
The vast majority (70%) of those surveyed recently said they think employer health plans and the hospital system will be worse off thanks to Obamacare.
In addition, 60% think the nation will be worse off.
That’s the conclusion of Buck Consultants’ 2011 Health Care Reform Readiness Survey of more than 200 healthcare organizations.
Costs the biggest concern
The main reason for all the ill will toward the law: 75% of respondents believe costs will rise as a result of its regulations, with 43% expecting significant cost increases.
It also doesn’t help that 48% believe their families will be worse off, and only 21% say they’ll be better off.
Many respondents said the law is forcing them to make changes to their organizations’ health plans they don’t want to make — like passing additional costs on to their employees.
Outlook for patients
What about patients? Given the expanded coverage requirements, the law has to make care better for patients, right?
The jury’s split on that one — 44% of healthcare pros say “yes,” patients will be better off under the reform law, while 45% disagreed.
